Norfolk is home to one of Britain's premier Carp fisheries, the famous 'Catch 22' complex in Lenwade. I have rated each fisheries according to the quality of facilities, access, price and standard. CATCH 22 FISHING CENTREcatch23.gif (13892 bytes)

The Catch 22 Fishing Center at Lyng has been developed to provide first class fishing in this attractive part of the country. Situated just 10 miles north West of Norwich in the Wensum Valley, comprising of 2 lakes of about 20 acres (main lake) and 4 acres.

SWANTON MORLEY FISHERIES

This fishery comprises of over 30 acres of gravel workings, split into 2 small and 2 large pits, depths run from 3 to over 20 feet. Stock consists of a large stock of Roach,Bream,Tench, Big Perch,Crucian Carp, and a huge head of Pike, specimens to over 25ib are taken every winter.Deadbaits score best for better fish. Day tickets:5-00 Tel:(01362)668202 Facillities:Toilet/shower directions:Take the A1067 Fakenham Road from Norwich to Bawdeswell and then the B1147 to Swanton Morley. Go over the River Wensum and turn sharp right. Pits are on right 400 yards down lane.

TASWOOD LAKES

 
A complex of some 5 lakes which vary in size from 1 to 4 acres in size. A really beautiful and prolific fishery for Carp, 32ib being the lake record. There are strains of all carp here, commons, Ghost Koi, and Grass carp. Other species include Roach,Rudd,Bream,Tench and Perch. The pleasure pool is a real bagging water, in my opinion the best bagging water in Norfolk! Day Ticket:5-00 Facillities:Toilet,Showers,drying room.Tel:(01508)470919 Directions: From Norwich take the A140 to Newton Flotman and take the right fork to Flordon. One and a half miles further on turn left to Tasburgh, the lakes are on the left after approx 200 yards.

This complex is without a doubt the best stocked group of carp fisheries available in Norfolk. There are 8 lakes ranging from 2 to 8 acres in size. Carp of all strains run to 33ib+ and there are some very big Bream. Day Tickets:8-00 Facillities:Toilet,showers,cafe,caravans for hire, bait boat hire and more! GUNTHORPE HALL LAKE

A beautiful Norfolk estate lake of around 3 acres, set in deep woodland. Depths range from 2 to 12 feet, the deepest being at the dam end. Species include Roach,Crucian Carp,Rudd,Perch,Tench, lots of Pike and Common carp into double figures. Day Tickets:3-50 Facilities: Toilets Tel:(01263)861373 (fishing must be booked in advance) Directions: Take the A1067 Fakenham road from Norwich to Guist and turn right onto the B1110. Proceed to Melton Constable and turn right onto the B1354. Take the next right turn and go into Gunthorpe village, taking the second turn on the left down to the lake and hall

BARFORD LAKES

 
Roach,Perch,Rudd,Tench and a huge head of small carp. 5-00 Day. Tel:(01603)75962 Directions: From Norwich take the B1108 Watton Road into Barford and turn right opposite the Cock Public House. Proceed to the T-Junction and turn right. Follow road through the Village, fishery is on right after approx 1/2 mile.

BLICKLING LAKE:  

 
A beautiful estate lake set in the grounds of the National Trusts Blickling hall. The lake is famous for it's huge Bream shoals, fish to 11ib have been caught. Other species include Pike (some big!), Roach to 1ib and some good Tench. Day ticket cost 3-50 from Bailiff who calls round Tel:(01263)734181 Directions:Take A140 (CROMER RD) From Norwich to 1 mile beyond Aylsham, follow the road through town and take a right towards "Blickling hall" continue for approx 2 miles, Lake is on right.

FELMINGHAM MILL LAKES

 
A fantastic lake complex consisting of 3 lakes and a caravan park (see accommodation). The lakes are really Well stocked with Carp into double figures,Roach,Perch,Crucian Carp and Tench. Day Ticket:3-00, Tel:(01263)735106

GIMMINGHAM LAKES

 
A real bagging lake! Absolutely stuffed with carp to 30ib,Tench to 8ib,Bream,Roach and Perch. 3-00 day! Tel:(01603)765456 Directions: From Norwich take the B1150 through Coltishall and into North Walsham. Turn left at the carriageway lights towards Munedsley, after approx 2 miles bear left towards the village of Trunch. Follow road through trunch into Gimmingham, fishery is on left after approx 1/2 mile. (beware this fishery has very basic toilet facilities!)

BARFORD LAKES

 
This fishery comprises of 3 man made gravel pits. The depths vary between 5 and 14 feet. The pleasure lake is 2 acres and holds Perch,Roach,Bream,Rudd,Tench and Crucian Carp and a good head of commons to over 20ib.This is the only lake available on a day ticket. Day Ticket:5-00 Facillities:Toilet and Disabled angler swims Route: From Norwich take the B1108 watton Road into Barford and turn right opposite the Cock public house. Proceed to T junction and turn right. Fishery on right just as you pass through the village.

COSTESSEY LAKES

Two lakes well stocked with most species, including Carp to 38ib and Bream to 10ib. Permits available from the on site tackle shop at Taverham Mills fishery adjacent. Day Tickets: £5-00 Per day. Facilities: shop,toilets,shower,tackle shop. Directions: From Norwich take the A47 Dereham Rd. Two miles from the city take a right down longwater lane. At the T Junction, take the right fork. The two pits are on the right about 400 yards past the main gate.

COMMON LAKES

This fishery comprises of 3 pits of around 8 acres in total, and a length of the River Wensum. The pits contain Carp to 30ib,Huge Tench,Pike,Roach,Bream and Rudd. The Wensum can throw up huge Chub, Roach and double figure Pike. Day Ticket: £4-00 day Facillities:Disabled access,Toilets,Fresh water Directions: From Norwich take the A140 Cromer Road and turn left at the Roundabout just passed the Airport. Turn first left and then over the crossroads into Costessey, turn right and follow the road into Lenwade. Go over the River Bridge and turn left just after the post office, fishery is at end of drive.

 Woodrising Carp Lakes 

This venue is one of the best carp waters in East Anglia. It has a great head of common and mirror carp, averaging around the 10lb mark with a few larger carp in the lake up to 20lbs. If you want great sporting action, then this is definitely the place to come. It is a shallow lake, with depths varying from 2- 5ft with lots of different features to fish to, all around the lake. This man made farm pond is very well kept and is around an acre in size. If you do decide to fish this venue then please tell the owners where you heard about it.
